"A long- term view of Sustainability applied in Life Sciences", Ed. 2026

Article 1.

Background and Rationale

The Life Sciences sector plays a critical role in addressing global challenges related to health, environment and social well-being. However, increasing pressure on natural resources, climate and demographic changes require a long-term, systemic approach to sustainability.

This special session organized during the MiSuSPharma, II Edition Conference aims to promote research and innovation that integrate sustainability principles into the life sciences, fostering solutions that are resilient, ethical and impactful over the long term.

Objectives

The "Long term view of Sustainability in Life Sciences" call seeks to support projects that:

  • Develop long-term strategies and models for sustainable practices in life sciences
  • Integrate environmental, social and economic sustainability into research and innovation
  • Promote interdisciplinary approaches bridging life sciences, environmental science and technology
  • Generate scalable and transferable solutions with lasting impact on ecosystem

Scope and Areas

  • Sustainable biomedical and biotechnological innovation
  • Circular economy appraoches in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices
  • Sustainable food systems and bio-based products
  • Life-cycle assessment in life sciences
  • Sustainable and bio-based materials for life sciences applications


Article 2.

Eligibility and Evaluation

Applications for this special Session are open to under 35 researchers that are regular member of the Thematic Group of Green Chemistry-Chimica Sostenibile. Applicants must demonstrate a relevant expertise in this field and the capacity to deliver long-term impact.

Note: 35th is included. Eligibility will be determined based on the applicant's age at the moment of the application.

Evaluation criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

1. Scientific and technical excellence

2. Relevance to long-term sustainability in life sciences

3. Innovation and interdisciplinary approach

4. Expected long-term impact and scalability

5. Competence of the applicant

Award and Recognition

The Session will be awarded by the Thematic Group of Green Chemistry-Chimica Sostenibile of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI). The award will cover the registration fees of the winning participant. 

Please note that travel and accommodation expenses will not be covered.
